Township people in Africa and other developing countries want “function”. With whatever I can find, please just give me a place to be safe and to sleep out of the rain. Shipping containers used as homes this way are nothing but a box, and they can get hot, too hot….
But what if we could combine form and function into one space and build a practical shipping container house that is insulated, not hard on the eyes, and costs less than a modest car. Would that be just right?
We believe we have created this Goldie locks of shipping container houses. The Hebnerhouse is designed to be useful for most environments; the developing world, as a summer cabin or in-law suite, for the survivalist, or for the DIY builder that just wants to get away from overpriced and over designed spaces.
This book is a how to make it “Just right” with simple important things to keep in mind to make your simple home possible.

Read this in context of building a school hybrid of container providing strength, stability and security with concrete block work added to side. Did not require the services described in the book but the structure of information and sequencing helped a great deal. The dimensions and organisation of the project were clear and concise. Our project was adapted from the book and worked well. The book is clear and flexible and so is admirably suited for this kind of enterprise

This is a eye opener. It gave me ideas to think about. I will think about how I want my kitchen and bathroom wall to be.

This book answered a lot of questions for me.I am currently building one my self. The only thing that could be better is the quality of the pictures.

This book does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a simple, cost effective way of creating a house. Pride aside, why do more people not do this? Bill has effectively created an ‘idiots guide’ and it’s certainly something i will be considering. It has opened our eyes to new possibilities and I thoroughly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed in this book.
